There has been a good deal of speculation these past months regarding the Mercedes-Benz GLA as it nears its scheduled launch date later this year. While not all of the details are available at present, here’s what is known so far:
A compact crossover SUV, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLA will share a platform with the upcoming CLA-Class, and will be positioned between the CLA-Class and the GLK-Class.
The powertrain should feature the 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine featured in the standard model of the CLA-Class, delivering 208 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, and paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Both a diesel model and an AMG® model are expected to be available as well. The latter, said to be christened the GLA45 AMG®, will be sport-tuned to produce 330 hp.
It is reported that the 2014 Mercedes-Benz GLA will made available with a choice of either front-wheel drive or 4MATIC® all-wheel drive.
The new crossover is expected to compete against the Lincoln MKC, the Range Rover Evoque, and the BMW X1.
It has been widely speculated that the new crossover will sport a very distinctive, dynamic exterior design, which would set it apart from the competitors in its class. To speculate that this will be similar to the thrilling styling of the recently revealed CLA-Class is probably a good bet.
