PRLog - Feb. 19, 2013 - For some time users have appreciated the service of real-time customer data transmissions in the telecoms industry. The real question is whether the utilities sector can look to the telecoms industry for a more cost effective, revenue-generating and transparent approach in its metering services. By understanding the positive correlations in previous billing developments in the telecoms industry, utilities can be better adapted to provide a more scalable approach for its customers.

Under the guidance of Michele Gibson and Peter Garling, TÜV SÜD BABT, this session's programme will address how the utilities sector can take away lessons learnt from the telecoms industry to improve the efficiency and reliability of metering and billing systems.

Delegates attending will be given insights to:
• Discover how elementsof metering & billing systems in the telecoms industry can be adopted by utilities to drive improvement
• Scrutinise their efficacy and see how you could incorporate their methods into your company
• Receive insight into the regulatory side of metering and billing how the requirements of the Metering & Billing Direction are being met and how to attain them
• Discuss the future of metering across both sectors and how you can capitalise on that

About the Masterclass leaders:
Michele is the Manager of the TÜV SÜD BABT Metering and Billing team and responsible for the oversight of Metering and Billing Systems Approval. She has worked with TÜV SÜD BABT since 2009 on certification and approval of Metering and Billing Systems having previously worked at British Standards Institution (BSI) for 5 years managing their Metering & Billing Team

Peter is a Chartered Engineer with over 30 years of experience working in the Telecommunications Industry. He has extensive knowledge of current and evolving telecommunications technologies and operations, including metering and billing systems. He is currently responsible for assessing the suitability of several UK Communications Providers for Metering and Billing Approval.

About TÜV SÜD BABT
TÜV SÜD BABT has over twenty years of experience of assessing the accuracy of billing mainly via the UK Metering and Billing Approval Scheme for the Telecommunications Industry, having been the only Approval Body to be involved in its development and operation until recent years.

Through TÜV SÜD BABT’s vast amount of experience in delivering Metering and Billing Certification and Approval to Communications Providers, we have found that established “audit models” are inadequate as a basis for Metering and Billing Certification. Our approach is based on Appraisal, Measurement and Process Controls, supported by robust management of any changes to equipment and procedures.
