The Top of the Rock restaurant was built in 1986 on the property now owned by the Phoenix Marriott Tempe at The Buttes resort complex. Uniquely perched atop an indigenous Sonoran Desert butte, or rock outcropping, the buttes upon which the property is located near downtown Tempe are part of an extinct volcano chain; the remains of which punctuate the desert landscape at odd intervals. At a height of thousands of feet above the main desert floor, the Top of the Rock fine dining restaurant boasts striking architectural elements such as a vaulted wooden conical ceiling, natural stone pediments and decorative accents, glass walls and windows and a hill-hugging patio providing incomparable views of the Phoenix metropolitan area below and around the location. Revered for its spectacular sunset vistas, Top of the Rock restaurant is open daily from 5-10pm and is open to the public, as well as guests staying at the adjacent Marriott resort.
“We are thrilled to be included among the other top 24 romantic dining destinations,”
Every month the Top of the Rock restaurant offers a “charity dinner” benefiting a local non-profit. The menu and parings are developed by the Top of the Rock’s award-winning culinary staff headed by Chef Gregory Wiener, and $5 from every charity dinner sold throughout the month are donated to that month’s cause. Recent recipients have included local branches of Ronald McDonald House, Habitat for Humanity and St. Mary’s Food Bank.
