Feb. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- New York, NY – As part of IBOM LLC’s ongoing commitment to provide the African diaspora business community with products and services that help them become more successful, IBOM LLC (https://twitter.com/ibomllc) founder Anie Akpe-Lewis (http://www.linkedin.com/pub/anie-akpe-lewis/12/483/abb) and Senator Eric Adams (http://www.ericadams2013.com/), 2013 candidate for Brooklyn Borough President, today announced an after-work ‘Business, Cocktails and Politics’ mixer on Friday, March 8, 2013, from 6pm until 10pm at Buka (http://bukanewyork.com/) (945 Fulton Street, in Brooklyn, NY).

The ‘Business, Cocktails and Politics’ is a series of after-work mixers where African entrepreneurs and political enthusiasts interact and build professional relationships with politicians and political parties that they may not have access to.  IBOM LLC (https://twitter.com/ibomllc) has teamed up with three established African business organizations in NYC, Amin Ameen Photography (http://aminameen.com/), Mayven PR (http://www.mayvenpr.com/) and MUI-The PR Company (http://www.muipr.com), to produce these after-work socials every quarter.

The inaugural mixer on March 8 which is being promoted using the official hash tag #EricAdamsBP2013, is aimed at raising awareness and support for NYS Senator Eric Adams’s race for the office of Brooklyn Borough President.  The launch event will feature cocktail specials and passed hors d’oeuvres from 6pm to 8pm, and Afrobeats music by two of NYC’s top African deejays, DJ’s TJ (http://www.facebook.com/DJTJMusic) and Afoo (http://www.facebook.com/pages/DJ-Afoo/231074883575656).

“As Senator in the great Borough of Brooklyn, I have worked with individuals and businesses from diverse communities to bring about progressive change” says State Senator Eric Adams, in his historic bid to be the first black Brooklyn Borough President.   "I appreciate opportunities like these because they reinforce my efforts and acknowledge the integral role which individuals, elected officials as well as communities must play to engineer the type of change needed to make Brooklyn better.  I support IBOM LLC and their partners move to provide more opportunities for leaders like myself to work with communities where African professionals and their small businesses are the majority.”

“The ‘Business, Cocktails and Politics’ series is about empowering African businesses and leaders to be more active in state and local politics.  Africans are quite vociferous when it comes to politics at the national level" says Anie Akpe-Lewis, IBOM LLC founder, entrepreneur and creative driver of the ‘Business, Cocktails and Politics’ mixer.  “We know what we want, who we want to elect into office, and what we need to do to make that happen at the federal level.  However, at the local level this is not the case.  Africans are not so active in local politics and political news.  Perhaps it is because we are smart, savvy and successful leaders who will only connect with local politicians who blaze new trails in support of our communities. Whatever the reason, platforms like ‘Business, Cocktails and Politics’ where local politicians show us that they are interested in building our community, are needed.”

Proceeds from the event will go to the Eric Adams for 2013 Brooklyn Borough President campaign (http://www.ericadams2013.com/biography).  Email IBOMLLC@gmail.com to RSVP.
