Feb. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Goshen, NY – Chester attorney David M. Hoovler officially announced his candidacy for Orange County District Attorney Saturday in front of a crowd of over 300 supporters at the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame in Goshen.

“Dave’s record and professional accomplishments have shown time and time again, at the local, state, and national levels, that he is an innovative, and effective prosecutor and leader,” said Orange County Sheriff Carl DuBois, who introduced Hoovler to the standing-room-only crowd. “As Sheriff, my endorsements are few and far between; still, I’m proud to offer him my unconditional support.”

Hoovler, a long-time Deerpark resident, is a former assistant district attorney in both the Bronx and Orange County District Attorney’s Offices. He is also a former Department of Justice trial attorney and Assistant United States attorney who specialized in electronic surveillance-related issues, wiretapping, and complex narcotics conspiracy cases.

“I am driven by the endless potential this office has to offer our communities, particularly in these times when we’re facing complex issues that affect us all,” said Hoovler, who officially announced his intention to seek the Republican nomination for the position held by retiring Orange County District Attorney Frank Phillips.

During his speech, Hoovler outlined his plans for improvement, which included:

·         Working with local law enforcement to create tailored investigation and prosecution approaches specific to the needs of Orange County’s cities,

·         Prosecuting frauds that effect taxpayers’ wallets, including worker’s compensation, unemployment, and welfare fraud,

·         Creating meaningful contact and connections with law enforcement agencies and locally elected officials,

·         Strengthening the District Attorney’s Office presence in local community non-profit agencies and school districts to help support initiatives, such as anti-bullying and inclusion measures, and

·         Actively exploring alternative sentencing options for defendants who are likely to benefit from rehabilitation.

“We have unique challenges, but we also have real opportunities for growth and improvement within the District Attorney’s Office,” Hoovler, with his family at his side, told the crowd. “We can make a difference, and set a progressive and positive tone for law enforcement.”

His announcement was greeted with a strong round of applause from a crowd that included John DeLessio, Orange County Conservative Party chairman, Langdon Chapman, Orange County Independence Party chairman, and representatives from local and state Fraternal Order of Police, Middletown and Newburgh firefighters, CSEA, COBA, Port Jervis and Deerpark Police, retired NYC firefighters, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

The Campaign to Elect David M. Hoovler DA will be hosting its first fundraiser on March 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Dana Distributors, 52 Hatfield Lane, Goshen NY.  For more information visit http://www.davidmhoovler.com or http://www.facebook.com/davidmhoovler, or email support@davidmhoovler.com.
