Feb. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Over the last few years energy prices have risen squeezing the budgets of families across the county. So, in an effort to keep our energy bills at a manageable level, home owners have found themselves turning into their parents uttering words they vowed they never would!

Instead of turning up the thermostat on chilly winter days, parents and partners are urging other family members to ‘put on another jumper’, ‘do something to keep warm’ or suggesting snuggling up under a blanket rather than increase the temperature and energy bills.

“As we have been speaking to prospective new homeowners it has become apparent that the energy costs of running a home is more of a consideration than ever before,” said Steve McElroy sales director Miller Homes Yorkshire. “More and more home owners are tightening their belts as the cost of living rises and that includes managing their energy usage accordingly and by turning the thermostat down by just one degree it is estimated that around £55 can be saved and 230kg in carbon emissions. By ‘putting on a jumper’ you could save even more!”

As part of its commitment to providing new homes for the future Miller Homes equips all its properties with efficient boilers, water saving sanitary ware,  insulation and ‘smart meter’ technology which allows home owners to manage their energy usage in conjunction with energy provider, E.on.

Smart meters work by detailing energy usage directly to your provider and also providing information regarding your home’s CO2 emissions. Home owners are also able to clearly understand their energy usage and can even opt for an audible warning when their energy consumption exceeds their chosen amount.

“All our show homes will soon be displaying labels that explain the efficiencies of the property to visitors and prospective home owners emphasising how important energy efficiency is to us,” said Steve. “Buying a brand property will undoubtedly help home owners manage their energy spending more effectively meaning that they may be uttering a different adage that we all recall our parents saying; ‘look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves’!”

Miller Homes currently has developments throughout the region with properties ranging from two bedroom apartments priced from £75,500 to five bedroom executive houses from £250,000.

For more information visit the developments which are open Thursday – Monday 10.30am to 5.30pm or visit www.millerhomes.co.uk.
