Follow on Google News | North County Jewish Center To Serve San Diego's Largest Hamentash EVER At Sunday GroundbreakingChabad La Costa Dedication Ceremony To Welcome Civic Officials And Entire San Diego Community To Be Part Of Purim Festivities
By: Chabad La Costa The groundbreaking will include not only words and blessings by community leaders, but feature the largest Hamentash EVER served in San Diego County. (The Hamentash is a traditional three-cornered cookie served on the festive Jewish holiday of Purim.) Jews and Non-Jews from throughout San Diego County are invited to come together to participate in this extraordinary dedication and feast. Mrs. Eilfort explained, “We purposely made the groundbreaking on the Jewish holiday of Purim, which is celebrated by eating the special cookie called Hamantash” (named after the villain of the Purim story and the enemy of the Jewish people who was consumed by his irrational hatred). The $5 million project will include a two-story, main building that will include a sanctuary, social hall, studies, offices, kitchen, library, Children’s Holocaust study center, Israel cultural center, youth education center, youth lounge, and much more. Rabbi Eilfort described the purpose of the new complex: “This new complex will give us the tools necessary to better serve the needs of the Jewish and non-Jewish community of the North County Coastal area now and in the future. Appropriate facilities have been sorely lacking until now and consequently limited the services we were able to offer. This new complex represents the culmination of several years of meticulous planning, hard work, and is the realization of a vibrant community’s dream for a beautiful and fully functional home!” Dr. Michael Galperin, Chairman of the North County Jewish Center’s Building Committee stated, “The entire community is welcome and encouraged to participate in this joyous, and historic event! We are looking forward to a tremendous crowd celebrating the progress we have made. This building will serve as an asset for the whole community, and so we hope the whole community turns out to help us celebrate!” Chabad at La Costa has served the Jewish communities of Carlsbad and Encinitas since 1989, when it was founded by Rabbi and Mrs. Yeruchem and Nechama Eilfort. Since that time their community has continued to grow until today, when more than 200 families and hundreds more avail themselves of Chabad’s numerous educational, religious, and social programs. Dedication Opportunities are available to those who would like to support the new center. For further information please visit Chabad’s website; http://www.chabadatlacosta.com/ End
