Studies Suggest Chiropractic Care Reduces Need for Surgery and Medical Costs

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 16, 2013 - A one year pilot program conducted by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield suggests that chiropractic care together with physical therapy greatly reduce medical costs and the need for back pain related surgeries. The quality pilot program was conducted for the improvement of care provided by Iowa and South Dakota physical medicine providers. The study points out that among all Wellmark members who received physical medicine services showed 30% improvement in just 3o days from the date they first received the services. Their peers who did not receive the same services however, showed otherwise.

The pilot program scrutinized the data provided by 238 chiropractors and physical therapists together with 5,500 Wellmark members. This particular study only proves that previous studies in the same field found relevant data in cutting down medical costs for patients suffering from back pain and other musculoskeletal related injuries.
