- Feb. 15, 2013 - BARRINGTON, Ill. --
The brand new Infiniti Q50 luxury mid-sized sedan, which will replace the current model G-series sedans at auto dealers like Motor Werks Infiniti of Barrington (http://www.motorwerksinfiniti.com/
index.htm), is set to get an engine from Mercedes-Benz. This is three years after Daimler and the Renault Nissan partnership reached an agreement to share technology in 2010. The new Q50 with the German engine under the hood will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.
The Q50, which will replace the current G37, is set to offer three engines. Initially, the two Mercedes-Benz engines will probably be only available in European markets, while the 3.7L V6 that generates 327 hp, currently available in the 2013 Infiniti G37 (http://www.motorwerksinfiniti.com/
G37&), will continue on in the United States. The Q50 will also be available as a 3.5L hybrid model that should be rated at 360 hp of combined power output. Starting next year, all engines should be available in all markets, giving shoppers many choices for how to power their new Q50.
The Mercedes-Benz engines should include a 1.8L turbocharged four-cylinder that’s currently available in cars like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. This engine includes rapid-multi-
spark ignition technology that can fire four times per millisecond and a high-pressure direct-injection valvetrain for improved torque response and clean, efficient combustion. This engine would provide plenty of power in the Q50: its output is rated at 201 hp and 229 lb-ft of torque. The other engine available will probably be a turbodiesel BlueTEC® engine like the 3.0L V6 in the Mercedes-Benz CL350 BlueTEC®. This turbocharged diesel engine would provide 210 hp and an incredible 400 lb-ft of torque for impressive performance.
