Chevrolet to Offer the 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel

Feb. 15, 2013 - PRLog -- Chevrolet has announced that there will be a diesel model option of the Chevy Cruze for the 2014 model year. The 2014 Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel is the first clean diesel car produced by an American car manufacturer. Drivers in Glendale Heights (http://www.sunrisechevrolet.com/custom/chevy-dealer-glendale-heights) and the surrounding communities will be able to test drive this vehicle at Sunrise Chevrolet beginning sometime in the second quarter of 2013.

This Chevy diesel car will be powered by a 2.0L turbocharged clean diesel engine that was designed in Italy and built in Germany. The engine delivers 148 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Drivers will also be impressed by 42 mpg highway driving that they’ll be able to get driving this Cruze model. The diesel engine is able to go from 0-60 mph in less than 9 seconds.

In order to qualify for clean diesel classification, the Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel had to meet a list of strict emissions standards, currently below US requirements. The new engine creates 90% less Nitrogen Oxide and particulate emissions when compared to previous generation diesel engines.

Allen Schaefer, Executive Director of the Diesel Technology Forum, said that “the Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel will be a key factor in taking the success of clean diesel as a competitive fuel-efficient technology to the next level.”

Schaefer also added that adding the Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel to a lineup featuring the Chevy Volt and other hybrid and flex-fuel vehicles that General Motors is showing consumers that the company is “making a strong commitment to diesels.”  

Other features the 2014 Cruze diesel model offers includes the Chevy MyLink infotainment system, a six-speed automatic transmission, and 17 inch alloy wheels. Owners will also notice that this vehicle has been designed to reduce the amount of noise and vibration that came with previous diesel engine models.
