Workforce Investment Board of Ventura County Adds Two Members, Reappoints One Member

The Workforce Investment Board (WIB) of Ventura County announced the addition of Ed Summers and Dr. Roger Rice to its board. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors officially appointed them on February 5.

 
PRLog - Feb. 14, 2013 - The Workforce Investment Board (WIB) of Ventura County announced the addition of Ed Summers and Dr. Roger Rice to its board. The Ventura County Board of Supervisors officially appointed them on February 5. Christopher Kimball, president of California Lutheran University, was reappointed for a second two-year term.

Ed Summers is president and CEO of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce. He also sits on the Board of Counselors for the School of Business at California Lutheran University and is president of the board for the Ventura Boys and Girls Club. Summers plans to focus on two key areas while on the WIB board: youth development and membership. "I'd like to help our youth make the connection between job skills and career success," says Summers. "I'm also looking to help increase WIB membership affiliation."

Dr. Roger Rice is associate superintendent for student programs and services for the Ventura County Office of Education. "I hope to serve as a resource in developing WIB's five-year strategic plan that brings various government agencies, schools and businesses together to create a well-trained workforce," says Rice. Rice will by serving on the WIB's youth council committee.  

"There is consensus that the readiness of our workforce has a strong bearing on the direction of Ventura County's economy," says Cheryl Moore, WIB executive director. "The WIB is fortunate to have current and new board members who understand the challenges we face and are willing to give of their time and expertise to make a positive difference."

         Members of the WIB include leaders from business, economic development, education, labor, government and community-based organizations.

         The Workforce Investment Board administers federal funds that help to support Job & Career Centers (JCCs) and other adult, youth, and employer programs and services in Ventura County. With additional resources from the County of Ventura Human Services Agency, the JCCs provide employment assistance, career training and education services to job seekers, and employee recruitment, customized training and employer consulting to local businesses.
