Follow on Google News | Nine GHS nurses achieve the (Palmetto) gold standardNines nurses from Georgetown Hospital System have been recognized as Palmetto Gold recipients for nursing excellence by the S.C. Nurses Association.

Lamb The nine, five at Georgetown Memorial Hospital and four at Waccamaw Community Hospital, are being recognized with Palmetto Gold Awards, the state’s highest honor for nursing excellence. The award is given annually by the S.C. Nurses Association to 100 Palmetto State nurses who demonstrate excellence in nursing practice and commitment to the profession. Each hospital can nominate up to six nurses for the award. The GMH recipients are Dawn Domenech, MSN, BSN, RN, Palliative Care director; Kerri Evans, BSN, BS, RN, Flex Department; Teri Hesler, BSN, RN, clinical instructor in GHS Staff Development; Ann Waters, MSN, BSN, RN, GMH vice president of operations and GMH administrator, said the nursing staff at GHS is exemplary. “Nursing is a profession that demands vigilance, quick critical thinking, stamina and compassion 100 percent of the time. While on duty, nurses must always be at the top of their game, for their colleagues and for their patients. I am proud that our nurses are at the top of their game and that they have been selected as nine of the South Carolina elite this year. They set the bar high for all of us.” WCH nurses are Deborah Collins, BSN, RN, Case Management; Joann Hashey, BSN, RN, head nurse, 3 East; Angela Vitali, MHA, BSN, RN, head nurse, 2 East; and Travada Marsh, BBA, ADN, RN, Emergency Department. Pam Maxwell , BSN, RN, vice president of operations and WCH administrator, said she was proud of GHS nurses for their dedication and selflessness. “They are all very dedicated and hard working,” Maxwell said. “They understand that nursing is an art that requires much of one’s self, and they give unselfishly, in the best interest of their patients and peers. They are smart, innovative, compassionate and caring and very deserving of this recognition.” The recipients will be honored at a formal event April 6 in Columbia. Proceeds from the event will fund Palmetto Gold Scholarships for nursing students and the Palmetto Gold Scholarship Endowment. Georgetown Hospital System is a private, not-for-profit organization. The system consists of Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Waccamaw Community Hospital and several facilities throughout Horry and Georgetown counties.
