Minority AIDS Project Joins Well Play This April to Raise Awareness Surrounding Sex Trafficking

The Wellness and Social Advocacy Organizations Will Host a Documentary Screening and Panel Discussion in Honor of National Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Month

Feb. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- (LOS ANGELES, CA) In recognition of National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, Well Play along with the Minority AIDS Project will present Warning Signs: Conversations with a Sex Traffic Survivor. The event will take place on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Action Factory in El Segundo, CA. and will bring together representatives of local government, law enforcement agencies, social and public service organizations, youth programs and foster care to explore the dangers and warning signs of domestic sex trafficking in the urban community. This multifaceted event will also serve as a sounding board for those who work closely with at-risk youth and adults in addition to providing education, advocacy and resource fulfillment to aid them in this very important work.

Highlights for this event will include an appearance by nationally recognized advocate and sex trafficking survivor Brook Bello. As a noted film producer, actress and spokesperson, she will present a special screening of her documentary “SURVIVOR” which chronicles her story of escaping the dark underworld of domestic sex trafficking. Bello will also share her intimate views on healing and how the work she is doing through her organization Moore to Life is saving young women and girls in America and across international borders.

Organizations like the Minority AIDS Project (MAP) will show support by disseminating information and providing resources for clinical services. “We are happy to have MAP on board for this effort as they continue to be a powerful voice in the community. It is my hope that more organizations will join us as we seek to make a difference and shed light on this horrific crime against humanity,” says Denise Williams who serves as the Director of Programming for Well Play. As the first HIV/AIDS organization for people of color in the United States, MAP continues to provide preventative education and health services for those living with the virus as well as for community groups who benefit from the organization’s services.

2013 marks the second year that President Barak Obama and his Administration are giving Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Month (http://www.whitehouse.gov/1is2many) a national platform. Their efforts to break the cycle of violence that threatens lives, erodes communities, and weakens our country, provide encouragement on the local level to get involved and support this call to action.

Well Play welcomes the support of community organizations and corporations who wish to partner and/or sponsor this special event. For more information on how you can help, please contact us today at playforthesoul@gmail.com or call (323) 250-2037.
