James Dicks accepts appointment as DoD Florida ESGR Employer Initiative Program (EIP) Director

Department of Defense Florida Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve State Chairman Honorable Gregory P. Holder Announces James Dicks accepts new position.

Judge Holder says, “It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of FLESGR Committee Member James Dicks as the new Employer Initiative Program (EIP) Director effective immediately.”

James' responsibilities and duties as the EIP Director will be focused on the Hero 2 Hired program efforts to enhance FLESGR efforts to find jobs for our Guard and Reserve members in need of employment.  James' network and contacts throughout Florida's business community as well as his national network will do well to serve our Warriors and Heroes.

James will continue to function as the Committee IT Director until a replacement can be appointed.  Any Committee Member interested in being appointed as FLESGR IT Director should contact me regarding their interest in the appointment.

Today, the nation's military Reserve components (referring to the total of all National Guard members and Reserve forces from all branches of the military) make up almost half of the nation’s total available military manpower. The current National Defense Strategy mandates that the National Guard and Reserve as full partners in the nation’s integrated Total Force. U.S. Reserve forces will spend more time away from the workplace defending the country in support of a demanding operations and training mission to maintain their readiness.  

In this environment, civilian employers, in adherence with the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), play a very critical role in the defense of the nation by complying with existing employment laws protecting the rights of workers who serve in the Reserve component.

James Dicks, a former U.S. Marine, completely supports the USERRA that protects employees currently assigned to the National Guard or Reserves.  Dicks spends a large amount of time in support of the troops “Today’s active duty members of the U.S. military, whether Guard or Reserve, continually put their lives on hold for the good our great nation.  It is our responsibility as good Americans to assist them in any way possible.

The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense organization; a staff group within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs (OASD/RA), which is in itself a part of the Office of the Secretary of Defense.  ESGR was established in 1972 during the Vietnam War and operates through a network of thousands of volunteers throughout the nation and Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
