The Brief
User accessibility was a crucial part of the brief as the existing World VTS Guide was felt to be more of a place to download information than view information from the site itself. They wanted a fresh modern site where both shipmasters and other interested parties could find information easily and be updated with all that was happening in the shipping world efficiently.
We developed some new bespoke elements for the site, such as the register/login section for the site which enables users to request to add information to existing ports or add ports that are not already registered on the site. This is centrally controlled by a member of the World VTS Guide to ensure all ports and information shared is legitimate.
The VST Finder is also another unique development created for the Wold VTS site. This holds all port and harbour information, and simply by selecting a location and then the VTS (port) you wish to view, all information about this port will appear under a small left hand menu. Up to 19 different categories could be displayed about the selected port’s VTS, including clear concise diagrammatic and written information regarding the navigational requirements of the VTS Centres of the World.
The Result
The facility to share port knowledge using the Register/Login section is invaluable to the World VTS Guide as they can provide more data about as many ports as possible giving maximum information for their users using the VTS Finder. This clear and concise database has enabled all users to find the information they need quickly and easily.
The site also includes a search bar, news and events section and abbreviations section to enhance user experience and inform them of everything they need to know about the vessel traffic services.
