Rubber Potentials, Agro Innovations & Myanmar Investment Opportunities at CMT 3rd RubberPlant Summit

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 13, 2013 - A positive outlook awaits the rubber commodity market particularly in Myanmar as it becomes an investment focal point thanks to favorable agro-business regulations, resources, and attractive foreign investment law set in place.

Mr. Ly Thanh Binh, Chairman & CEO of Green Asia Global Corporation will chair and open the 3rd RubberPlant Summit with an introduction. He will also share expert insights on intercropping – a subject of increasingly significance in the industry – focusing on the economic feasibility of intercropping rubber with cassava, an area of agroforestry which his company specializes in.

Looking at Myanmar, a Senior Representative from Ministry of Agriculture & Irrigation (MOAI)’s will speak on land acquisition in Myanmar. Mr. John McClure, Business Development Manager at LMC International will deliver a paper on global outlook and price movement for 2013, plus Dr. Myat Thu, Senior Staff Officer of the MOAI will zoom into Myanmar’s rubber plantation and production situation, agronomic practices, costs, yield and quality.

Elaborating on land and commercial matters are Ministry of Forestry’s Staff Officer, Mr. Min Zaw Oo and Dawei Rubber Planters & Producers Association’s Chairman, Dr. Yu Sein respectively. Renowned legal expert Mr. Alessio Polastri, a Managing Partner at P&A Asia will advise on the foreign investment law and privatization process in Myanmar, while tax and legal expert Mr. Edwin Vanderbruggen, Partner at VDB Loi will address government lease fees, JVs and taxation matters. Mr. David Allan, Director of Spectrum, will also be at the summit to share on social license and due diligence in Myanmar’s plantation sector.  

The Summit also offers updates on Indonesia’s and Philippines’ rubber market along with innovations in agronomic practices and production increment. Subject experts Dr. Masaru Takagi, Professor & Director of Institute for Environmental Science and Technology at Saitama University and Dr Sivakumaran A/L Seenivasagam, Executive Director (R&D) at Greenyield Berhad will speak on genetic modification of plant traits and systems to overcome tapper shortage & production costs reduction respectively.

To complement the main summit, the organizer has incorporated an optional “A-Z Site Assessment for Plantations Myanmar” workshop that focuses on fine assessment and evaluation of sites along with soils and climates suitable for the various kinds of intercropping.

The 3rd RubberPlant Summit is an annual meet where plantation owners, agribusiness investors, R&D institutions, traders, regulatory officials, financiers, legal experts, and senior management from the tire/latex, forestry/timber, fertilizer/crop protection and rubber technology sectors convene for updates and networking.
