Feb. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Flagler Habitat for Humanity will be hosting a home dedication for the Knight Family on Saturday February 16, 2013 at 10:00 am.  The home is located at 47 Becker Lane and was generously sponsored by Pioneer Appliance through the community tax credit program. This dedication will truly be a celebration for the Knight Family,  For more information, contact the Habitat office at (386) 586-6180. “This house will give us peace of mind and security,” said homeowner, Janette Knight.

“It is so exciting to be a part of a movement that makes such a positive impact in the lives of people in our community and around the world.  Our partner families work hard for their home, putting in a minimum of 250 hours of “Sweat Equity” and homeowner education classes.  Our homeowners purchase their homes at full price for a 0% interest mortgage.  We are proud of the homes we build and having the opportunity to create the “American Dream” of home ownership for a family in need," said Lindsay Elliott, Executive Director of Flagler Habitat.

According to UN-Habitat, the United Nations agency for human settlements, one out of every three city dwellers—nearly a billion people—live in slums. Many slum residents lack secure tenure without any legal documentation of their property rights in addition to living in severely inadequate housing conditions. Secure tenure not only facilitates opportunities for investment and wealth accumulation, but also provides a source of identity, status and political power and serves as a basis for the pursuit of other rights.

Flagler Habitat for Humanity began in 1992 with the help of a dedicated and passionate group of citizens who saw a need in our community.  To date, Flagler Habitat for Humanity has housed 72 families, over 287 people, in simple, decent affordable homes.  Flagler Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating sub-standard housing from our community and around the world, one house, and one nail at a time.
