Follow on Google News | Marlene Verwey - A Flute Affair Concert, 9th March, 2013, St John’s Waterloo, LondonSouth-African born Marlene Verwey will be performing an evening of music for Flute, accompanied by a Salon ensemble consisting of Piano and String Quintet, in aid of Homes in Zimbabwe.
Marlene was named the 2012 Sir James Galway Rising Star, and A Flute Affair is the debut album from this supremely talented flutist. The evening's program will feature the works on this CD, which combines music ranging from classical masters such as Handel and Mozart to classical arrangements of contemporary compositions such as Sigmund Romberg and Coenie de Villiers. It will feature the beautiful and dreamy Karoonag, inspired by the tranquillity of a night in the Karoo desert. It will then take the listener through a collection of flute pieces that are at times uplifting and technically challenging, (Carmen Fantaisie Brilliante, Taffanel Grande Fantaisie), and at other times peaceful and calming (Tango - Adios Nonino), whilst continuously displaying the technical brilliance and musical maturity of a hugely gifted soloist. This concert will appeal to a wide range of listeners, from the untrained ear to the classically trained. It will feature a number of original arrangements containing combinations of flute and backing instruments never before heard. A Flute Affair is the perfect homage from Marlene, combining her dedicated tuition, many musical experiences and varied influences in this dazzling work. Marlene is a WMS Haynes artist and will perform on a 19 carat Haynes head joint. “This is a beautiful recording, and a pleasure to listen to - sir James Galway, Meggen, Switzerland, April 2012” Concert Details Saturday 9th March, 2013 St John’s Waterloo Waterloo road London SE1 8TY Ticket Price - £13 General Admission Tickets: https://kiosk.iristickets.co.uk/ Artist Website: http://www.marleneverwey.com Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/ Homes in Zimbabwe Charity: http://www.hiz.org.uk End
