Hal became a widower in 2007 and he speaks from experience. Covering everything from "condiments to condoms" the book provides transitional guidance in a culture that has changed radically since these mature men were last "solo".  It provides extensively researched insights that will give these "Solo" men (who are a much neglected but rapidly growing segment of the population) the tools that will help them, “get out there” and discover new levels of happiness and personal satisfaction.

A sociologist by training, Harold (Hal) Spielman, Co-Founded, McCollum Spielman Worldwide, a market and communication research company whose unique services are available in 53 countries. In 2008 he retired as chairman of MSW.

Over his long career, Spielman has been a frequent speaker at the Association of National Advertisers, the American Marketing Association and the Advertising Research Foundation. He has been President of the Market Research Council, President of the Copy Research Council and has chaired multiple conferences for the AMA and the ARF. Currently, he is a research advisor to the Ad Council. In 2008, he was elected by his peers to the Market Research Hall of Fame.
