PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 13, 2013 - NEW YORK –  StraightAce, the mobile study service for middle schoolers, today launched a new web campaign to inspire middle school kids to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). StraightAce’s “STEMazing!” blog series highlights trendy and emerging STEM fields, giving young students and their parents valuable insights into how STEM skills translate into exciting future careers. The new blog series, which continues throughout February, will also share the experiences of young adults currently studying STEM fields.

“We want to help young students realize that what they’re learning in school really matters, and that there are all sorts of amazing things they can do with these skills in the future,” said Mr. Matsuo, President of Benesse America Inc. “Although we live in a digital age, the real-world applications of STEM skills — particularly mathematics — aren’t always obvious for many young students. They might copy the formulas and memorize the definitions, but they might not be seeing how any of that is relevant to real life. By showing them what these skills have the power to accomplish, we hope that today’s middle schoolers will find compelling incentives to learn, and be inspired to pursue their curiosity about the world.”

Amidst a growing need for STEM graduates in the U.S., STEMazing! educates young students about exciting new opportunities in STEM fields. STEMazing!, hosted on the StraightAce Blog, also provides students and parents with useful resources to learn more about STEM, and features personal stories and advice from older students entering STEM fields. In sharing these success stories, STEMazing! aims to empower young students to pursue their interests, and engage them with their schoolwork by illustrating how the concepts they learn in the classroom — particularly math — play an important role in everyday life.
