Blustein, Shapiro, Rich & Barone Partner Richard Shapiro to present at Elder Law Seminar

Richard J. Shapiro, partner in the law firm of Blustein, Shapiro, Rich & Barone, LLP, will give three elder law-related presentations as part of NBI’s Fundamentals of Elder Law continuing education seminar in Newburgh, NY on Monday, March 11, 2013.

 
PRLog - Feb. 11, 2013 - PORT JERVIS, N.Y. -- Richard J. Shapiro, partner in the Goshen law firm of Blustein, Shapiro, Rich & Barone, LLP, will give three elder law-related presentations as part of the National Business Institute’s Fundamentals of Elder Law continuing education seminar in Newburgh on Monday, March 11, 2013.

This live seminar is appropriate for attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, social workers, insurance professionals, and nursing home administrators. Attendees will receive an overview of the elder law planning process and gain a firm foundation in the issues that will impact the rapidly growing and changing senior population.

Shapiro has been recognized as a leader in the trusts and estates law field. Most recently, he was selected to contribute to the book, Inside the Minds: Strategies for Trusts and Estates in New York, 2013 ed., published by Aspatore Books, a Thomson Reuters business.

•Planning for Continuing Care Costs,
•Planning for Incapacity, and

For each segment, Shapiro will discuss the financial and legal issues and techniques vital for today’s elder law and estate planning practitioners.

Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to:
• state the importance of creating a personal balance sheet,
•describe how to use supplemental needs trusts to qualify for government benefits,
•list at least two criteria to consider when planning for continuing care costs,
•explain the guardian's role in end of life decisions,
•distinguish between ethical and unethical practices, and
•explain how to report suspected elder abuse.

Continuing Legal Education credits for New York and New Jersey, as well as Guardian and Professional Achievement in Continuing Education credits are available.

The live seminar will take place on Monday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 15 Crossroad Court, Newburgh, NY. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and complimentary snacks and refreshments will be provided.
