Phone Home – Cell Phones for Soldiers Receives Support from Real Estate Investment Firm

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 11, 2013 - Cell Phones for Soldiers was started in 2004 when two young children learned that an army sergeant stationed in Iraq had racked up a $7,624 cell phone bill through calling home to his family here in America.  The children pooled their money totaling $21, and proceeded to collect donations from friends and family.  After holding car washes and other fundraising events, the children began a fund at a local bank.  Local media reported on their contribution, and the charity has since become a forma l 501(c) 3 organization.  Cell Phones for Soldiers is partnered with ReCellular Inc. to process used cell phones with an average cell phones value approximately equivalent to a 60 minute international calling card.  Calling cards are then distributed to soldiers stationed overseas, enabling them to phone home when the rigors of service to their country become difficult.

    CEO Antranik Kabajouzian of Bay Area Equity Group recently learned about the program, and decided to use the offices of Bay Area Equity Group as a collection point for the used cell phones.  “The trials and tribulations of service men and women find headlines in the media from time to time, but what happens when the media focuses their attention elsewhere?  We still have soldiers stationed in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other parts of the world that need our support” says Mr. Kabajouzian.  Bay Area Equity Group has been an annual supporter of the Campbell Veterans Memorial Foundation, and has hosted a barbeque and car show in an effort to raise money for the charity for the past two years.  “I and the staff at Bay Area Equity Group are committed to helping our armed forces at every stage in their careers - both during service and after being discharged.”  

    Participation in Cell Phones for Soldiers appears to be a perfect match with Bay Area Equity Group’s ongoing civic program, Bay Area Bridges.  Bay Area Bridges was first launched in December of 2012 with the goal of creating an assistance program for anyone in need.  The program requires a proposal to be submitted for review, and resources are allocated based on a review of the individuals or organization’s needs.  “Bay Area Equity Group is about building bridges.  Through building bridges between our clients and real estate investment, we are then given the opportunity to support and build bridges within our community.”
