Feb. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- NEW YORK, NY --The legendary Academy Award-nominated actress, performer, best-selling author and breast cancer survivor will speak at the Get Your Voice On! A Celebration of Women Conference at the Hilton New York (Manhattan) on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, 2013.

Diahann Carroll is a Golden Globe and Tony award winner, Broadway and Las Vegas headliner and nightclub performer. She currently has a recurring role on the USA TV Network series “White Collar” and recently filmed her stage show, “The Lady-TheMusic-The Legend,” backed by 28 musicians for PBS-TV.

In addition, Ms. Carroll is a 2009 New York Times best-selling author of The Legs Are the Last to Go: Aging, Acting, Marrying and Other Things I Learned the Hard Way. In 1987 she released her first autobiography, Diahann!

Carroll has been accustomed to “getting her voice on” throughout her 60+ years as an entertainer. Best known as the first black woman starring in her own network Television series on NBC in 1968, Carroll portrayed a widowed nurse raising her child in “Julia.”

The multi-talented actress also starred in the highly acclaimed motion picture “Claudine,” playing a single parent attempting to raise 6 children on welfare in a Harlem, NY slum. Her vivid portrayal garnered Carroll an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.

In 1984, Diahann Carroll joined the cast of the award-winning glitzy primetime ABC soap, “Dynasty.”

As a breast cancer survivor, Carroll speaks regularly to groups to raise funds for the cause. “We must speak up and say I have had such an experience,” said Carroll in the 90-minute film 1 a Minute which chronicles the life of a breast cancer survivor.

“It’s one thing to use your voice to lead to your own success. It is entirely another to use it for the good of others with whom you share a particular passion and experience. Diahann Carroll has done it all and has the unique ability to demonstrate why it’s imperative to get your voice on to succeed and make a difference locally and globally,” says Jennifer S. Wilkov, co-founder of Get Your Voice On: A Celebration of Women. “Getting her voice on for 60+ years as an entertainer and speaking regularly to help those with breast cancer as a survivor herself are stunning examples of why she is the legendary human being and humanitarian she is. I can’t wait for our attendees to hear Diahann talk about her passion for getting her voice on!”

“’Someone pinch me!’ were the words I shouted when I learned Diahann Carroll agreed to speak as a keynote for our conference,” says Michele Mattia, another co-founder of the event.  Diahann’s biography is filled with numerous moments and experiences where she used her voice to speak up and speak out.  From her legendary acting career to her victory from a personal battle with breast cancer, Diahann is a role model for women to not accept status quo and actively create the life they deserve. “
