Although less than 10% of the Nexus student body participates in competitions, the Nexus youth and adults continue to rank as one of the premier teams in New England.
In the 2-day NAGA grappling tournament held in Warwick, RI, twelve adult and teens competitors won 19 medals, including a Championship Belt plus 6 additional gold medals, 5 silvers, and 6 bronze medals. On the youth team nine competitors won 24 medals, including 9 gold medals, 12 silvers, and 3 bronze.
The same weekend Peter Luciani continued the Nexus Mixed Martial Arts competitors’
Jiu-Jitsu competition team captain, John Murphy, said: “The medals are great but what I really liked was to see how everyone, even the first time competitors, showed great composure and used very good technique. That shows everyone is on the right track with their games.”
Owner and Chief Instructor Stephen Whittier added: “It’s really a privilege to be able to work with these awesome kids and our adult teams every day. They work hard, make no excuses, and represent themselves like true martial artists when they compete.”
