Feb. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- Save On Siding, Houston, TX has recently completed a large siding and trim job on a residential apartment multi-family complex.

Jeff Ludy, Owner/Founder of Save On Siding, said that several other area siding contractors bid on this project but, his company beat the competition due to the availability of crews, the type of product offered and pricing. "The complex owners certainly did their due-diligence in the vetting process" he says.

The timeline to complete the project was critical due to the fact that the buildings are occupied. Minimal interruption of residents with zero complaints or incidences were some of the criteria spelled out by building management.

"Multi-family projects are unique..." Ludy says, "...there are numerous obstacles and time frame constraints. Obstacles like cars, dumpsters and people. Time constraints like delivery schedules not interrupting garbage pickup and commute times for work and school schedules".

Companies taking on large projects need to consider product storage and security of product, machinery and tool requirements. Arrival of man power and the ordering and delivery of materials is critical. Adequate credit line and available capital is crucial to success.

"When you have just 3 weeks to install 50,000 square feet of materials, for example, there must be processes and policies in place ahead of time to pull it all off like clockwork", Ludy explained. There are also other considerations like purchasing power, insurance (both General Liability and Workman's Compensation) and the possibility of posting a bond on large projects.

Ludy also does not limit his offering to a single product line. His crews are trained in James Hardie Hardiplank (as well as other fiber cement brands), Louisiana Pacific Smartside, wood siding and vinyl siding. "We install all types of siding and trim work. Rather than making the customer take whatever it is we are offering, I like to see what it is that will work best on the structure and provide the best ROI for the customer. Sometimes it is Hardie, sometimes LP and sometimes something else" Ludy elaborated.

"These are the things that set us apart from the smaller Houston siding companies" Ludy added.

Many small siding companies in Houston are geared to using small 5 man crews on single family residential projects. They often have the crews pick up materials at local suppliers and sometimes the big box home improvement stores. In some cases, the crews also have to pay for the materials. That process does not work when you tackle larger multi-family and commercial jobs.

Save on Siding started as a father and son home improvement company and through scripted and refined processes and procedures has been able to grow and thrive in this weakened economy.
