PRLog - Feb. 8, 2013 - HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- Even though the 2014 Infiniti Q50 just debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Infiniti is already looking forward to a next-generation coupe version of the luxury sport sedan. Johan De Nysschen, President of the Infiniti Motor Company, said, “I think the coupe is an important part of the platform” during an interview with CarAdvice. “Most certainly we are working right now on a coupe derivative of the car [Q50]… known at the Q60.”
The new Q60 coupe will probably feature a similar engine to the 3.7L V6 in the Q50; this engine is rated at an impressive 328 hp. Nysschen also said that Infiniti might be coming out with turbocharged four-cylinder and diesel engines that would be related to a deal that the automaker has made with Mercedes-Benz. Other high-performance versions of both the Q50 sedan and the future Q60 coupe are also predicted, since the platform is more than capable of handling much more power than is currently under the hood.
One possibility for the Q60 coupe could be a hybrid powertrain. The same hybrid system from the quick 2013 Infiniti M35h will make its way into the Q50, and probably into the Q60 at some point. This 3.5L V6, which makes a generous 354 hp when combined with the hybrid system, will either send power to the rear wheels or all of the wheels.
The new Q60, based on the new Q naming convention that Infiniti announced last year, will probably come in one or two well-equipped trims, positioned with a higher price than the Q50. Infiniti hasn’t made any formal announcement of price or debut, but the Coupe will likely come out by 2016, if not in 2015.
