Brij, the versatile actor exited the stage from the right wing. The audience’s applause was still ringing in his ears. It was a full house and they had just given him a standing ovation that lasted for 3 minutes. The response of the audience was greater than what he had anticipated. Relief and joy flooded through him as he rushed towards the green room to change.
He plonked on the very well used hence worn out brownish chair with a high black back. He looked triumphantly at his own image, reflected by the large wall mirror above the dressing table. He smiled with vanity, at himself, as if he was congratulating himself. He ignored everyone else in the green room as he hurriedly grabbed a sandwich from the pale looking white ceramic plate the stagehand Jai who was waiting for his return, had offered him. He immediately started munching on it.
Jai congratulated him on giving a great performance. Brij didn’t stop eating nor did he turn to face Jai as he devoured the sandwich.
His make-up was on, he was eating away in hurry, enough crumbs fell on his costume, he was ignoring others as if he was making a statement, all this made him look very ugly.
Jai complemented him again. Brij gave him a look of scorn. Brij moved right on to receive the next compliment from the beautiful starlet whose name he did not recollect, without acknowledging the last one from Jai.
While people did compliment him face-to-face, his rudeness put everyone off… On screen, he played the role of an amicable, respectful person and was appreciated by his audience for the same.
Since he was successful, he was surrounded by people and compliments. That had swallowed him up.
However, do you believe, ANYONE prayed for his success. Do you believe, ANYONE, rooted for his success?
When the spotlight is off you or when it is on, when the applause dies or continues, when the next promotion doesn’t come or it does, when the expected increment is not given or you get more than what you expected, when the big idea fails or when it strikes a goldmine, when the next performance doesn’t go so well and even when it does, what do you think matters?
Your glory or your generosity?
There are some people who are praying for your success. Are you generous with them?
There are some people who play an active role in your success. Are you generous with them?
2012 just went by. What were your moments of success? Were you generous with people who played their part? The make-up man, the stage hand, the light man, the hair dresser, and a few more were the indirect and invisible support system for the success of Brij.
Who were your support system? Were you generous with them?
As we march towards 2013, express your generosity towards people who made 2012 possible for you.
May your 2013 then, be the best year of your life. May you dream incredible dreams and achieve all of them. May you meet incredible people and may they say, they did meet an incredible, generous person for they met YOU!
While appreciation and accolades will make you FEEL like a superman, your generosity will MAKE you a superman.
May you chose generosity over glory. We in Life School pray, may the almighty be over generous with you.
With loads of love, prayers and best wishes,
As I Live…I Learn
