What caught my attention about Cong. Sonny that night is his simplicity and humility. Aside from wearing a very plain yellow polo shirt that matched what his wife was wearing, I also saw how he adores his friends, how he values the people around him and how he truly loves his family. I saw a man who foresees a good future for the country and most especially, one who has a heart for the less fortunate children who cannot afford to go to school.
I was just alone in one corner at that time, waiting for the event to end, observing, trying to sell champagne and wine and waiting for further instructions from my boss when Cong. Sonny approached me... He came to me with a very pleasant smile on his face saying: "Ano, may bumili ba?.." I was stunned and "star struck" by his presence at the moment but I was able to answer back, "Yes Sir Sonny, madami naman po." I replied, pleased to have even a short conversation with him. Then he said, "Ah ganon?.. Good!"... "Thank You!" while smiling at me. I said, "Okay po sir"...
That simple conversation started it all. I was able to define the kind of person he is. For a simple employee like me, it’s a very big deal when someone as popular as Cong. Sonny Angara will be the first to approach and talk to me. It was really a delight to the heart, which makes me proud to say that I was able to get the chance to even have a small conversation with this man. I am just doing my job at that time, doing what my boss instructed me but having that simple and short talk with him and receiving the word thank you from him made a lot of difference. It made me realize that this man has a humble heart who appreciates even the little things done for him.
In my own point of view, I can say that Cong. Sonny is a person with a good heart. He never forgets to smile and say thanks no matter what walk of life you come from. His political platform says it all. Among the young lawmakers, he has probably passed the most number of landmark laws – Expanded Senior Citizens Act, Free Kindergarten Act and the newly signed Kasambahay law which makes it mandatory for employers to provide benefits like SSS, Philhealth and Pag-IBIG to their household help.
We need someone who is approachable, someone who understands and sees what is really needed in the country. Someone who cares about the future of the new generation. Someone who has a heart for the poor, someone who is humble and is really willing to provide public service and values public trust. Someone like Cong. Sonny Angara!
