Feb. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- The Dallas Chamber Symphony will build on its acclaimed film score series with a world-premiere performance of Brian Satterwhite’s DCS-Commissioned score for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari on Tuesday, February 26 at the newly opened City Performance Hall. The score will be performed live-to-film by some of the area’s finest musicians. Renowned Austin-based film composer Brian Satterwhite will be in attendance.

“We are all very excited to perform this truly unique film and fine arts experience, presenting an original score that brings new life to one of the most famous classic silent films” says Richard McKay, Artistic Director and Conductor of the Dallas Chamber Symphony. “Audience members will notice the film’s groundbreaking visual effects, and how strongly they influenced such famed directors as Tim Burton, Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, and James Whale.”

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (released in 1920) is widely considered to be the first legitimate horror film ever made and the first film to be told almost entirely in flashback. It is also credited for inventing the ubiquitous "twist ending" prevalent in modern films.

Parental guidance is suggested for this performance due to some mildly scary imagery.

“My approach to scoring this film was a bit of a surprise because at times, I often felt more like a painter rather than a composer,” says composer Brian Satterwhite. “Inspired by the iconic set design, I tried to complement the jagged edges, slanting walls, and obtuse angles with melodies that employ spacious intervals and herky-jerky rhythms.”

The event will be held on Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at City Performance Hall (2520 Flora Street, Dallas, Texas 75201). It will begin at 6:45 p.m. with an informal pre-concert conversation with Guest-Film-Composer, Brian Satterwhite. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. There will be no intermission.

Individual tickets are available for $15-$38 each. For event information or to purchase tickets visit www.dallaschambersymphony.org or call (214) 880-0202.
