Be Inspired to Serve-Rotary Peace Forum-Creating a Better World for All of Us
PRLog - Feb. 7, 2013 - SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Every day we read or hear about tragic events at home and abroad, but have you ever asked your-self how to make our community and world a more caring and safer place?

Come hear stories from local and international “heroes” whose actions to promote a better humanity will inspire you.

Through service we become more tolerant of our differences, more understanding of others, learn to respect others, and with mutual respect live with others in peace.

This is a free event and not a solicitation. Rotary International is committed to service above self and the Cameron Park Rotary Club is hosting this event to assist attendees in discovering opportunities and ways to become involved in service opportunities.

The event will feature a welcome address from Rotary 5190 District Governor Sam Wilbanks, two panel discussions and keynote speaker, Emily Jonas, an Ambassador and Response Team Member for Shelter Box International who is actively involved in local and international service efforts.

Featured Speaker: Emily LoSavio Jonas is an Ambassador and Response Team Member for Shelter Box International. Shelter Box is global disaster relief charity which instantly responds to earthquake, volcano, flood, hurricane, cyclone, tsunami or conflict disasters by delivering boxes of aid to help families rebuild their lives after losing everything in a disaster. Each iconic green ShelterBox contains a disaster relief tent, stove, blankets, water filtration system, and other tools for survival. Ms. Jonas completed her Response Team training in 2011 and has been deployed to the crisis in Somalia at the Ethiopian border. She has also founded a non-profit organization helping inner city youth in San Francisco, serves on the Boards of other global and local organizations dedicated to improving the lives of others, and served on numerous committees relating to Human and Children’s services. Emily has been honored by AT&T and 92.7FM radio as a local “Community Hero”, and was featured as the inspiring visionary leader in Wiley & Co.'s book The Leadership Challenge. She continues to work in the field and speak widely about her work.

Other Activities: Two panel discussions regarding the role of Education in World Understanding and the achievement of domestic and global Peace through Service to others. Attendees will be able to visit with representatives of many small and large organizations who are continuing to make a positive difference in our world and will discover the power of one person’s involvement.
