In the show, Swengler talked about the difficulty of marketing an app in today’s competitive mobile app industry. It is not enough anymore to just have a good idea, or even a great idea, for an app. Having the budget to build it and, more importantly, having the financial resources to market it are the key elements that need to be considered before having the app developed.
Swengler also stressed the need to do your research first before going to a mobile app developer and having your app built.
“You need to know what your competition is doing,” he said.
After having done that, the prospective client should then prepare a “use case” scenario which defines or explains each step that a user takes to accomplish what the user will do and see when using the app.
“You step through it as if you had it in existence right now. You just walk through the whole thing. Once you have that, you can sit down and talk to me about building an app, because if you come in and say, ‘I want an app that tracks my plumbers.’ I have no idea of what scope you have,” he explains.
Aside from this, Swengler also talked about the still untapped wealth of applications for mobile technology in various settings and industries.
