CSMP Certification Program - Perfect for Professionals with Dual Roles that Involve Safety

Feb. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Over the course of the recent recession, many professional management positions were combined by companies and institutions in their quest to save money.  Included in this trend were a number of safety management positions that were combined with other positions such as human resources.

Today, a number of Managers have the dual role of Safety Manager or Safety Coordinator in conjunction with their primary position.  The Institute for Safety and Health Management (ISHM) has developed the Certified Safety Management Practitioner (CSMP) program to recognize many of these professionals who possess a dual safety management role.  The CSMP was specifically created to recognize people performing occupational safety and health management activities either on a part-time or full-time basis, with a less formal path in their health and safety education.  The program provides formal recognition for these professionals who were previously underserved.

“With so many safety professionals performing dual roles today, the ISHM felt it was necessary to develop a professional certification program for these individuals,” reported Larry Curtis, CSHM, Executive Director of ISHM.  “The new CSMP certification is similar in nature to the ISHM’s well established CSHM and ASHM programs, but with some key differences.  It recognizes those professionals whose duties include performing important safety and health assignments, but who have taken a less formal safety and health education path as well as managers who function as a safety manager on a part time basis.  Candidates for the CSMP might be an active safety team participant, line manager, human resources professional or other professional with safety responsibilities” he continued.
