What are you willing to Pay for R-22 refrigerant?

What is going on with the price of R 22 HCFC Refrigerant? it could cost more than $200 per pound before summer 2013 is over!

Feb. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Many of us remember what happened when R 12 was phased  out. The price went from a couple of dollars a 12 oz can to about one hundred dollars for the same stuff.
have you ever wandered why? Well, we have found out that r 12 was harmful to our environment and is a leading cause of global warming by its ozone depleting properties. It was phased out, meaning that the USA banned the manufacturing and use of the chemical. The same thing now is happening to R-22, witch incidentally is the refrigerant of choice for home comfort systems manufactured in the USA before 2006. that means you might be paying way to much for r-22 refrigerant. there are a couple of things that can be done. You can not convert your R22 units to R410a however there is a new refrigerant that with the proper technique and procedure, your HVAC professional can convert your equipment to R421 . It will require some new parts and a clean out, but in the long hall it is much better for you to change refrigerants. Or if your unit is more than ten years old you might want to think about investing in the newer more reliable technology.  Just a bit of information for you to thik about so you can be prepared for the up coming summer.
