Follow on Google News | Author Says Absent Dads Are Factor in Nearly All Social IssuesDads who leave their families are the reason children end up in jail, parents at a young age, and strung out on drugs, says author Kenneth L. Osborne.
By: RootSky Books Kenneth L. Osborne, an expert in addiction/behavioral health and corrections, discusses the impact of father absence and solutions for it in the forthcoming release, When Mama Is Daddy: The Male Crisis and Challenge of Ending Father Absence. Osborne, who has worked in the fields of substance abuse and treatment, and corrections for more than 20 years, has seen the devastating effects of father absence in his work. It shows up in the stories of many of the inmates he has worked with, as well as those he has counseled in a drug treatment setting. Osborne says children who come from homes where Dad is not there are more likely to be poor, get into trouble at school and with the law, and have children early. “This is a complex problem, but I believe with courage, determination and positive actions it can be appropriately addressed and lessened,” Osborne says. He adds, “It is time for men —young and old — to answer, respond to, and appropriately address the issue of father absence.” To interview Osborne or to request a review copy, please email monica@rootskybooks.com. - 30 - End
