Follow on Google News | Dearne Valley College Students Bench-Press Weight of Army Tank for CharityThere has been a warm feeling in the air at Dearne Valley College recently with the NCFE Level 3 Public Services students having achieved over £120 for local cancer care charity, The Aurora Centre; an organisation close to the students’ hearts.
With over £120 in total raised, the Public Services staff and students invited two volunteers from the Aurora Centre at Mexborough Montague hospital, a centre that aims to improve the quality of life for cancer patients by delivering a range of free beauty therapy treatments, to officially hand over the donations. Public Services Tutor, Emma Barnett, supervised the fundraiser and the presentation of the cheque, and said: “I am so proud of my NCFE Level 3 learners; they have been committed to the organisation of the charity event. The learners finished the bench press before the six-hour limit due to their determination and hard work”. 92-year-old Dorothy Logan, who was recently awarded the Diamond Champion Award for her services to volunteering at charity centres including the Aurora Centre, attended the presentation and was very keen to thank all of the Dearne Valley College staff and student involved.
