Attorney Bernard E. Layne, III Appointed to UC Board of Trustees

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 5, 2013 - Attorney Bernard E. Layne, III graduated from The University of Charleston (UC) in 1992. After graduation, he continued his education at Ohio University and the University of Dayton School of Law. This year, he was appointed to the UC Board of Trustees(http://www.ucwv.edu/AboutUC/Board_of_Trustees.aspx). As such, Attorney Layne will work with 33 other professionals to direct the educational policies of the institution. The board works with the administration, faculty, staff and president of the university to create a far-sighted plan for the education of UC students. Over the past decade, UC has moved from a traditional teaching structure (lecture-oriented) to an individualized, student-centered learning style.

Attorney Bernard was board in Williamson, West Virginia – a coal mining community in Mingo County. Although the town has less than 3,200 residents, it is the county seat of Mingo County and the area’s largest city. Raised by blue collar parents, Attorney Bernard learned the importance of honest, hard work as a young child. Even though both of his parents were raised in relative poverty, Attorney Bernard understood the importance of education and individual effort as a means to rise above his circumstances. With the support of his family, he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and eventually obtained an M.A. in sociology and a Juris Doctorate.
