Feb. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- Advanced Protection Technologies, Inc. (APT), a company that designs, manufactures and sells American made surge protective devices, participated in the Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay’s National Groundhog Job Shadow day (NGJSD) on Friday, February 1, 2013.

NGJSD is a joint effort of America's Promise - Alliance for Youth, Junior Achievement and the U.S. Department of Labor. Nationwide, more than 1,000,000 students and 100,000 businesses participate. Junior Achievement is a nonprofit organization providing a series of business, economics and life-skills programs to enhance the education of young people. This event is a national campaign that gives young people a new perspective on their studies through hands-on learning and a one-day mentoring experience. Students are paired with a mentor who they "shadow" throughout the day to emulate real world skills which they learned in the classroom.

During this event, APT hosted local high school students who are involved in the STEM TEC (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Training for Emerging Careers) program. They toured the 41,000 square foot manufacturing facility and participated in a product workshop which provided a hands-on learning experience. “APT is committed to doing our part to educate the community of the real world opportunities for careers in manufacturing. Events such as the NGJSD allow APT to show these students that today’s manufacturing facilities are clean, high-tech environments with a wide variety of positions and career paths. These students are the future of our industry and I believe every manufacturer should take an active role in developing a pipeline of future, highly skilled employees.” stated Andy Malcolm, President of APT.

About Advanced Protection Technologies, Inc. (APT)

APT’s world headquarters has been located in Clearwater, Florida, USA since 1985. Exceptional customer service and support have earned APT the respect of their clients and partners, as well as accolades from leading industry market research companies. Past and present OEM partnerships with Siemens, Schneider Electric/Square D, and APC, along with branded product sales to major distribution equipment manufacturers such as ABB, Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, GE and Eaton Corp, combine to make APT the largest private-label manufacturer of SPDs in North America. APT’s manufacturing processes are ISO 9001:2008 certified and they participate in Underwriters Laboratories’ Client Test Data program. Their participation in industry standards organizations is just one reason that APT remains an SPD industry leader. APT recognizes the importance of reviving our nation's economy by manufacturing American made products and taking pride in the high quality of their surge protectors. APT’s headquarters, which is 41,000 square feet of office and manufacturing, embarked on an expansion in 2011 by adding an additional 10,000 square feet. As one of the frontrunners in Florida’s emphasis on expanding manufacturing in our state, APT was honored to have Governor Rick Scott visit APT to promote his plan to increase jobs and grow the economy.

APT was eager to participate in Achievement of Tampa Bay’s NGJSD and will continue to mentor our youth and educate them in the significance of exploring careers in the manufacturing sector.
