City of O’Fallon Brings Single-Stream Recycling Program, Rewards to Residents

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 5, 2013 - ST. LOUIS, Mo.  — Americans recycle only one-and-a-half pounds of the more than four pounds of waste they generate daily. In an effort to help slow this trend in our area and significantly increase recycling rates, Waste Management (http://www.wm.com/index.jsp) (NYSE:WM) is working with the City O’Fallon, Ill., to offer residents single-stream recycling. To encourage higher levels of recycling and to offset cost, Waste Management has partnered with Recyclebank on a rewards-for-recycling program.  

“O’Fallon has always been a progressive city and we believe that adding recycling to the standard service package is the right thing to do for our community and provides the services that our residents desire, at a reasonable cost,” said Mayor Gary L. Graham.      

“Waste Management is committed to making recycling simpler, more accessible and more appealing for local residents,” said Dan Hannah, public municipal representative for Waste Management of St. Louis. “Our partnership with Recyclebank is just one more way we are contributing to a greener, more sustainable world by increasing recycling and reusing materials.”

Residents have received new 96-gallon recycling carts from Waste Management. This will make it easier for residents to recycle more items at one time. A full list of recyclable materials, including glass, plastic, paper, cardboard and cans, is available at www.wm.com.

Recyclebank is similar to a frequent flyer program; however, members earn points for living a more sustainable lifestyle. Members can use these points to “shop” at Recyclebank.com for rewards and discounts from local retailers, such as Best Buy and Home Depot. Residents who do not wish to collect rewards for their household can donate points to local schools.
