Feb. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- This half term pupils and students from Bedales and Bedales Prep have secured team and individual successes in a variety of sports as their talent is recognised at county and national level.

Bedales Prep, Dunhurst, pupil George Ford, in Block 2 (Year 8) has been selected by Team Winner for 2013 sponsorship as a result of his recent successes sailing for Great Britain.

At the end of last term, George flew to Palma, Mallorca where he competed in a major international regatta coming 32 out of nearly 400 sailors from 19 countries and was the second GBR sailor. As part of the sponsorship, George will receive a new boat, sails and sailing kit. Team Winner is considered to be the most prestigious sponsorship deal available for the class that George sails in. The announcement is even more impressive given that they only select 3 children per major country who they think will be in the top 10 in the coming year.

At Bedales, Block 4 (Year 10) student Will Harvey has been selected to play for the U15 Hampshire Rugby Squad. Block 3 (Year 9) student George Robson helped the Hampshire A team beat their Dorset and Wiltshire counterparts 21-10. He was presented with a Hampshire county rugby tie after the match.

In France, Block 4 students Monty Clevely and Clare Denning teamed up with Jemima Goodfellow from Block 3 to compete in the British Schoolgirls Skiing Championships in Flaine. They spent Sunday training with their coach Marianne Brechu, French World Cup team European Super-G winner in 1997. The team finished 19th out of 53, with Clare Denning finishing a fantastic 8th in the U16 category, Monty Clevely finishing 30th in the U16 category and Jemima Goodfellow finishing 21st for Giant Slalom for the U14 category, which was an excellent result for her first ever race.

In other team sports, Dunhurst’s U11 Hockey team beat Frensham 3-1 in what was their first match of the season due to previous bad weather cancellations. The Bedales U15 boy’s hockey team beat Lord Wandsworth C team, 4-2 and the U14s beat Kings, Winchester, 2-0. In the Hampshire tournament the U18s won two (against Ryde and Brockenhurst) and lost three narrowly. Bedales girls’ U14A&B netball teams played Meoncross with both teams winning. The U15 Bs played Ryde, winning 21-0.
