Gitchurgoat is fighting City Hall!

For the past 5 years I and my neighbors have been involved in a lawsuit in Fannin County Georgia. Although many issues exist, the most serious aspect pertains to Public Safety. A residential community, “My Mountain “, with over 200 homes is being provided drinking water that was seriously contaminated with toxins. What’s worse, we as citizens did not know anything as far as what the test results meant. While at the same time, representatives of the State Government knew we were drinking water that was unfit to bathe in. No one acted, no one informed us of what they knew. Later, as a community, when we realized what happened, local Government took the position of…… and I kid you not…”Not our problem”.

A developer constructs an illegal water system in violation of the 1974 Federal Safe Water Drinking Act and the 1977 Georgia Safe Water Drinking Act. A System that is non-compliant with State and Federal Regulations and even after putting Fannin County on notice with certified letters, Fannin County just shrugs it’ shoulders, never once attempts to hold the developer responsible.

Georgia EPD became involved in 2005; long story short, they were out maneuvered by the developer’s lawyer who it appears now, may have provided EPD with inaccurate information that had been provided to the attorney by the developer in order to suppress Georgia EPD’s investigation. This whole situation would have gone away except residents fought on their own against the developer…and sadly, against local Government.

People are drinking water from the faucets in their homes laced with coliform and E.cloi. Government knew for over 5 years….and it still may be going on. Developers Estate will NOT allow the water to be tested anymore. (Solves the problem?) Developer was an important man in the community supporting many political candidates and Judges.

So Fannin County finally comes up with a solution for the bad water problem. In July of 2011 after being begged by the developer to intervene in the lawsuit, Fannin County does just that, on behalf of the local developer. You heard me correctly, developer begs Fannin County to bail him out…and they do, all at taxpayers’ expense. As a note, Fannin County Water Authority Chairman Mike Queen told me personally how Roy Quintrell and his wife Helen Quintrell begged Mike to get “County Water “ onto My Mountain, they said “Get us out of this lawsuit”! Mike Queen, a friend of more than 4 decades to the Quintrell’s, is trying to fulfill that promise to the Quintrell’s regardless of the cost to taxpayer’s and the victims of My Mountain.

Over 18 months of silence! So, where are we, Fannin County prepares to replace an “Un-Permitted Public Water System” at the cost of $3,000,000  at no expense to the developer and the victims will pay for it!
