Very rarely in my life, have I seen someone failing, for the task at hand, was impossible. Almost always, I have seen people failing for they had a list of excuses. The saying goes, ‘When you truly want something, you will find a way. Otherwise, you will find an excuse.’
What have been your excuses? Here are some that I often hear.
I did not have time - Really? Are you busier than all others? And what exactly were you doing with your time? Do you honestly believe, you did not have time? Or is it just a way to excuse yourself? People have done more than you, with the same quantity of time ! Haven’t they? As the saying goes, ‘It is not important how much you do, if what you do is not important.’ Stop whining about lack of time. Focus on your priorities and you will FIND time.
Fear of financial losses - Was it real or was it just imaginary? Inspite of this fear, could you have still gone ahead? Do you know of anyone else, who in your situation would have gone ahead and DONE IT ! Maybe, you do not want to give up on your comforts.
Maybe you do not want to adapt. Maybe, you do not want to put the necessary efforts. Maybe, you do want to assume responsibility for your own life. What is is? Find out and move on….
Better Option - You waited for a better option and then a better option and then a better option and then waited again for a better option and the year ran out. You are still waiting….For what? Better options? Is it you who is not good enough or is it the options which is not good enough. What is the truth? Do something about it and make the choice.
Other’s opinion - You were not sure if ‘others’ will like it. And who are these others? How important are they to you? Will they stand by you in your testing times? Are you sure? Should you care for their opinions? Come on people…its your life. You get to live it only once. Live your dreams. Did you know, the father of Wright brothers thought it to be so wrong for ‘anyone’ to try to invent a machine that can fly? He thought is was against the will of god. Think about it !!! So what are you waiting for?
Past Failures - This is as ridiculous as it gets. Past failures? When did you ever get things right in the ‘first time’ Or, for that matter, the second time? It always takes time to learn. Some take less time and some take more. Some children learn to walk within 10 months, some take an year. I know of a child who learnt how to walk after 17 months. So what? Today, all of them walk equally well. How is it important how much ‘long’ you took to learn as long as you did learn it. Remember, failure is only when you have given up. Otherwise, you still in the learning mode. My darling student Kuldeep failed 8 times to get through in his CS exams. In his ninth attempt he was in the all India merit list. He jokes and says, ‘This is why I am the best option CS for anyone. I have studied deeper than anyone.’ He is a pride for all who know him. Just imagine, what you would have done in his place. Gone ahead or given up? Hence, is past failures a reason for you to give up?
The voice inside your head - Besides you, there is another person residing inside you. He is the negative voice that demotivates you, that discourages you all the time. This voice creates fear of ridicule within you; it reminds you of past failures and convinces you to give up. It is this voice that makes you see shadows in bright sunshine, that makes you hesitate when you have fantabulous opportunities, that convinces you to be insecure, that makes you believe you are just not good enough. While this voice is present in all, strong people make this voice weak and the weak people make this voice strong. The strong, laugh when they listen to this voice and confidently shuts him up. The weak, listen to this voice and shut themselves up. For you to live life to its fullest, learn to master this voice. Only you can do it. No one else can do it for you. One simple idea – Nurture the company of people who believe in you. It helps !
Besides these common excuses, you might have a variation. You might also have a unique one. Whatever it is, lets do one exercise. Write down your excuse on a slip of paper. Burn it. Now carry on with your life believing in yourself and deciding to do something INCREDIBLE this year. May 2013 be better than all the years of your life. May you do more in 2013 than the past 10 years combined.
You will, if you are determined to find a way. Otherwise, you will find an excuse.
With loads of love, prayers and best wishes,
As I Live…I Learn
