Recent statistics from Deloitte Consulting indicate that mobile devices influence 5.1% of all in-store retail sales, or about $159 billion in transactions - and while the percentage is still small, its growth trend is exceptionally strong.
Those firms who are able to seamlessly integrate mobile into their existing shopping experience will grow their share of both wallet and margin - but the transition for retailers and the marketers/advertising agencies who service them has not been an easy one. A recent article from Fortune / CNN indicates that "Despite the high expectations, retailers are still grappling with how to deal with the shift in consumer behavior. The field is so nascent that it's difficult for companies to know what to do or how to measure success. Experimentation is common."
