The conservation also focuses on preserving and developing the surroundings of Manuel Antonio National Park, the territory of squirrel monkeys.  

A small group of business owners established the Titi Conservation Alliance in 2001 with the intention of protecting the biodiversity of Manuel Antonio Costa Rica, which had started to feel the adverse impact of growing tourism. In fact, these people understood the necessity of saving the flora and fauna of Manuel Antonio as well as Quepos, which were the very essence of local tourism and the source of their livelihood.  

Endangered Titi or Squirrel Monkeys

Apart from a wide array of animals and plants varieties, Manuel Antonio National Park is the habitat of four species of monkeys of which titi or squirrel monkeys are the endangered ones. In order to grow bananas and raise livestock, people clear off the forests at an alarming rate. As a result, the squirrel monkeys keep losing their habitat constantly and finally, become confined to two tiny places of the country, one of which is the Park in Manuel Antonio. At present, less than 1,700 titis are believed to be existed in Costa Rica.

What the Organization Does?

Since the birth of this non-government organization, its members have been working incessantly to make the ‘Naranjo River Biological Corridor’. The corridor is supposed to cover an area of over 100,000 hectares. This channel is essential for the survival of Titi monkeys, as it will help mingling and mating their two populations with each other. It is also working to reforest the Naranjo River basin with a kind of native trees that are a food source for Titi monkeys.  

Los Altos Preserve: An Ally of Titi Conservation Alliance

As a non-profitable and non-government organization, Titi Conservation Alliance needs resources to continue its charitable activities. It gives tourists the chance to be involved with this nice initiative by donating money. Many local institutions are actively involved with the alliance through which concerned tourists can support. One such helping institute is ‘Los Altos Beach Resort & Spa’. This beautiful Manuel Antonio Resort   with private beach access is located near the Manuel Antonio beach. With a balance of style and comfort, tourists are welcome there to enjoy luxury accommodations amidst breathtaking natural surroundings.  

How Can You Contribute Through Los Altos Preserve?

You can donate for the Titi monkeys by being a guest of this hotel. The donation is taken by adding $1 on your per night’s bill. The hotel authority donates the dollars directly to various projects of the alliance.

However, tourists are not bound to donate for the organization. If they do not want to contribute, they are open to inform at the Front Desk of the hotel. On the other hand, if any tourist is willing to pay more than one dollar per day, s/he is welcome to do that. In order to make the process hassle-free for the guests, the Los Altos authority adds the donation directly to the final bill.
