FaceBook Friends Help Ryke's Bakery Out of a Copyright No No!

PRLog (Press Release) - Jan. 31, 2013 - Word has been quietly circulating throughout the last few weeks that the NFL trademarked the word “Super Bowl” and they are working hard to protect their intellectual property.  The broadcast law blog spells out the rules around the use of the phrase “Super Bowl” at http://www.broadcastlawblog.com/tags/super-bowl-trademark/ .

Ryke’s Bakery discovered half-way through their 6th annual Super Bowl Cookie Poll that they were using the phrase “Super Bowl” without permission from the NFL. Quick thinking from Renee Rouwhorst put a poll question to the Ryke’s Facebook fans to help the bakery rename their annual cookie poll.  Flooded with great names it was hard to pick!


Top three choices were down to “Grid Iron Cookie Face Off”, The “Ultimate Cookie SmackDown” with the tagline “Get Ready to Crumble”, and “Ravens vs 49er’s Cookie Poll” (names would change annually.).


After many votes throughout the day, popular vote on Facebook was the “Ultimate Cookie SmackDown – Get Ready to Crumble” – submitted by Amanda Flynn.  Amanda wins a dozen cookies in her favorite team colors while Ryke’s wins a fabulous new name for their annual Cookie Poll!

Cookies in 49er’s and Raven colors are still available through Saturday, February 2.  The Poll currently shows that Ravens are in the lead – only time will tell if the “Ultimate Cookie SmackDown” will predict the winner of the Big Game!!!

Ryke’s Bakery, Catering and Café is located at 1788 Terrace Street at Laketon Ave.  Business hours are Monday-Friday, 6:30am-5:30pm and Saturday, 7:00am-3:00pm.  Ryke’s is closed on Sundays.  Visit them on the web at www.rykes.com.
