Members will receive training in personal finance and leadership. The Council will also participate in a service project benefiting the North Texas Food Bank.
By: Texas Trust Credit Union The Youth Advisory Council is a leadership development program that focuses on personal finance. The Council meets twice a month to learn about personal financial issues, service leadership, marketing and career opportunities in the financial field. The Council will also participate in a community service project, which will benefit the North Texas Food Bank. Council members were chosen from among 70 applicants. They will serve through the end of May 2013. Members were chosen based on their extracurricular activities, leadership credentials, and desire to serve and actively participate in the Council. Members include three sophomores, three juniors, six seniors, and two college freshmen. The college freshmen, Madison Samas and Victoria Harkrider, received Council membership as winners of the Spirit Debit Card design contest held within Mansfield ISD in the spring of 2012. The 2013 spring Council members are: • Arlington: • Fort Worth: Kiera Fry (North Crowley High School) • Grand Prairie: Edward Tingle (Pantego Christian Academy), Dallas Swayzer (Ursuline Academy), David Garcia (South Grand Prairie High School), Saraih Tovar (Dubiski Career High School), Clarissa Espinosa (Dubiski Career High School) • Mansfield: • Southlake: The Youth Advisory Council is part of Texas Trust's financial education initiative. The program equips high school students with financial skills to prepare them for college and beyond. "We continue to receive a large number of interested applicants, which indicates high school students are highly interested in learning about personal finance," said Amber Danford, vice president of marketing. "Beyond teaching them how to become money-wise, we give them opportunities to serve in the community and learn about business operations so they have a better understanding of how financial institutions work."
