It is the first time the company, which delivers training programmes for the leisure, fitness, coaching, leadership and management, customer service, business administration and sales sectors at more than 200 assessment sites nationwide, has drawn up a programme specifically for foundation learners.
The free training course will be available first to students living in Portsmouth, Sandwell, Dudley, Dover, Margate, Guildford, Bexley and Manchester.
To be eligible, learners must be aged 16 or 17 and for the subjects English and Mathematics they must not have achieved either a C or above at GCSE or a level 2 qualification.
The 36-week course will comprise four level 1 compulsory subjects – Certificate in Personal and Social Development;
Depending on their chosen career path, students will also choose one further qualification from: level 2 National Pool Lifeguard; level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction or from a choice of selected sports coaching qualifications including football, tennis and swimming.
Mac Cleves, Managing Director at ICON TRAINING, said students enrolling on the unique Foundation course will spend one day in the classroom and another on placement in a relevant workplace to put their theory into practice.
Upon successful completion of the course, they will then have the opportunity to progress on to a level 2 apprenticeship or gain a place at an FE college on a level 2 or above course.
