Follow on Google News | Doctor Who actors join the cast of new British web series 3some based on critically acclaimed playA new British web series has entered production featuring stars from the cult UK science fiction TV series, Doctor Who.
Capital City Entertainment, a new production company that has been producing a wide variety of projects in the past two years including theatre, short films, online shows and livestreaming shows, is venturing into their first scripted web series, 3some. Producers Elisar Cabrera and Lisa Gifford are the husband and wife creative team behind the company. A six episode web series, 3some is the creation of writer and actor Lisa Gifford based on her theatre play of the same name. The theatre play had its world premiere in August 2012 and sold out all three of its performances at the Camden Fringe Festival. It received multi 4 star reviews from influential UK theatre review blogs and was voted pick of the Fringe by readers of Everything Theatre. 3some the play is set over one night and one morning as Jenny and Paul return home from a night out with their womanising friend Rob. Drunk, the friends reveal secrets and eventually a game of "I Never" leads all three into the bedroom for a threesome. The consequences of the threesome and months of unspoken tension between the couple come together the next morning as, when confronted by Jenny, Paul walks out of their relationship. "One of the things that came out of the performing the play, was that audience members kept asking me 'what happens next?' They wanted to know what happened to these characters, so that's why I wrote the web series" says writer Lisa Gifford. The web series is set one year later after the events of the play and Rob has moved in with Jenny, having declared his love for her the morning after the threesome. But not everything is rosy as it should be, old habits die hard and the shadow of Paul is about to cast itself over Rob and Jenny's troubled relationship. Series creator and director Lisa Gifford also stars as Jenny, Peter Halpin stars as Paul and Euan King stars as Rob. All three leads also will portray the same characters in the play of 3some which will be opening in London's Etcetera Theatre on March 19th (and set one year prior to the events of the web series) for a three-week run. Capital City Entertainment intend to release the first episodes of the web series on their website (www.watch3some.co.uk) Guest stars in the web series include Annette Badland, known to sci-fi fans around the world as Margaret Blaine the alien Slitheen who went up against Christopher Eccleston's incarnation of Doctor Who no less than three times. She is a seasoned British actress who has appeared on numerous TV dramas such as Wizards Vs Aliens, Coronation Street, Casualty and Cutting It. Her film roles include Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Angels & Insects and Jabberwocky. Also starring as Paul's father is Simon Fisher-Becker whose appearance as Dorium Maldovar in Doctor Who in Series 5 and 6 alongside 11th Doctor Matt Smith has firmly entrenched him as a favourite of science fiction fans. Producer Elisar Cabrera met both Annette Badland and Simon Fisher-Becker while attending British based Doctor Who conventions in 2012 working on behalf of his Doctor Who fan talk show, Talking Who. Thinking they were ideal as Roger and Margaret, the very English upper-middle class parents of Paul, he asked if they would be willing to read the script. "It was very exciting when Simon Fisher-Becker replied within 24 hours of receiving the script that he absolutely loved the project and wanted very much to play Roger, Paul's father. When Annette Badland replied soon after our perfect couple for Paul's parents was made," said producer Elisar Cabrera. An Indiegogo campaign has also been launched by the company to raise publicity and marketing funds for the web series and play. (www.indiegogo,com/ DOWNLOAD PUBLICITY PHOTO: www.flickr.com/ End
