People are always clamoring for the next big weight loss breakthrough because the last fad failed to produce results. From the Paleo diet to the latest weight loss pill, many have tried it all. Hypnosis is different because it works at the very core of the individual, the brain. Ms. Sandlin explains that most weight loss strategies only address the symptoms of our current mental programming, such as overeating and living a sedentary lifestyle. When that program is re-written, the symptoms naturally disappear.
Dr Oz isn’t the only one touting the benefits of hypnosis for a shrinking waist line. A meta-analysis of data conducted at the University of Connecticut demonstrated that people who used hypnosis were able to lose an average of 2.5 times as much weight as those not using hypnosis. Doctors at Harvard and Columbia are also beginning to recognize the applications of hypnosis for weight loss.
So what happens in a typical weight loss session? Ms. Sandlin says that sessions are as unique as clients, although there are some universal guidelines. “Most clients are pleasantly surprised when they are instructed to add food to their diet. It is such a radical change from typical approaches, but that is why it works.”
