Follow on Google News | Bangor area roller derby league announces first home boutThe women of Central Maine Derby, the Bangor area’s newest flat-track roller derby league, are proud to announce their first home bout. “Inaugural Brawl” will be held Sunday, March 24 at Bangor Auditorium.
“We are very excited to host our first home bout,” said Shelby Fastback, skater for Central Maine Derby. “We got started in May 2012 and in less than a year, we’ve grown from a handful of women with a dream to over forty skaters, referees and volunteers. We have seen so much interest and support in the community for our league, and roller derby in general, that we’re looking forward to finally being able to bout in front of our friends and family.” Doors will open at 2 pm, with the bout beginning at 3 pm. Admission is $8 presale, $10 at the door and free for children 12 and under. Tickets are available from any Central Maine Derby member or online via Brown Paper Tickets at http://centralmainederby.brownpapertickets.com. Refreshments and merchandise will be available for sale. The half-time show will be announced at a later date. Bout and league sponsorships are available for interested businesses and organizations. Proceeds from the event benefit Central Maine Derby’s future programs and events, including champion cause, “Skate Don’t Hate.” The program, launched by the league, provides literature to schools and hosts in-school assemblies for local children where skaters speak about their personal experiences and share the importance of tolerance.
