The movie experience at BIG ARTS is more than just a film showing. A group of enthusiastic film buffs lead informed post-movie discussions, complemented by refreshments. All Monday Night Films are $8 and begin at 7 p.m. in Schein Performance Hall.

Viewers will enjoy the quality of a Blu-ray Disc player, high-definition projection equipment, and surround sound. Assistive listening devices are available.

         Upcoming February Monday Night films:

February 11 Romantics Anonymous (2010) France/Belgium; Not Rated. Special Reception.

February 18 Surprise Film: A Royal Affair (2012) Denmark; Rated R.

February 25: No Monday Night Film, (BIG ARTS Annual Benefit)

Romantics Anonymous is a clever romantic comedy directed by Jean-Pierre Améris, starring Benoît Poelvoorde and Isabelle Carré. It's the story of an easily-embarrassed chocolate maker and her boss, a panic-prone chocolate company owner. Will they act on the chemistry they feel for each other? The film won the Magritte Award for Best Foreign Co-Production. Of the film Stephen Holden writes in The New York Times, “ ... the tale of two pathologically shy chocolate makers who are meant for each other but are too afraid to connect is a mug of warm cocoa with marshmallow topping that produces a comfy feel-good glow.” A special reception with chocolate and wine tasting, sponsored by Bailey’s, begins at 6 p.m. A limited-number of $15 tickets includes the film and reception, the $8 ticket is for the film only.

The “surprise” film for Monday, February 11 is the 2012 historical drama, A Royal Affair. Centered on the intriguing love triangle between the insane Danish King Christian VII, his royal physician who is a man of enlightenment, and the young Queen Caroline Mathilda, A Royal Affair was nominated for both an Academy Award and a Global Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. David Rooney calls the film “Gripping, sumptuous and enthralling,” in The Hollywood Reporter.

BIG ARTS Monday Night Film Series Sponsors Bank of the Islands, Stan & Visnja Gembicki, and Supporters Sanibel Taxi and Jerry’s Foods of Sanibel.
